Vizag Gas Leak Live: Ten people, including two children, have died while about 300 are hospitalised after gas leakage from LG Polymers chemical plant in RR Venkatapuram village, Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh today. The Vizag factory was trying to open post lockdown when the incident occurred.


The National Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to the Andhra Pradesh government and centre over the deaths and suffering of several people due to the styrene gas leakage in Vizag.

Styrene is a poisonous gas which is commonly used in manufacture of Plastic and Synthetic Rubbers.

Is Styrene Toxic?

It’s moderately toxic, but may give severe injuries by inhalation or ingestion.

Short-term Exposure may lead to respiratory troubles, eye irritation and gastrointestinal problems.

Long-term Exposure affects the Central Nervous System. Symptoms include Headache, Fatigue, Weakness, Depression, Hearing Loss etc.

There are several use of this gas. It is used to make Pipe, Insulation, Automobile Parts, Printing Cartridge, Food Container, Packaging, Carpet Backing, Luggages, Shoes, Toys, Floor Waxes etc.
